What is Death Valley?
Death Valley, located in southeastern California of America, is a very huge and beautiful but very hot place where the temperature is always 55–56 Celsius. This place is also famous as “Racetrack Playa.” Neither any human nor any animal lives in this huge, dry desert. Here, you will only find big rocks and heavy stones. The surprising thing is that some of the huge stones located at this place, which probably weigh hundreds of pounds, slide in a strange manner on the hot, dry desert and also leave their marks behind on the ground. These strange sliding stones are also known as Death Valley moving stones by many visitors.

Scientists Are Baffled by Wandering Stones :
If a huge stone slips from its place overnight and reaches another place, it really seems scary. Experts have been doing research for many years to know the mystery of the wandering stones in Death Valley, but still, they have not been able to find any concrete reason. According to some experts, this place is full of supernatural powers, while some people believe that due to the magnetic field present at this place, the huge stones are slipping and reaching another place.
Some experts consider it to be alien activity, while some people consider this place to be haunted, but even today no one has a solid reason behind this terrifying mystery of Death Valley moving stones.
Imagine that for some reason you get stuck in this dry, vast desert of Death Valley at night, where there are only huge rocks and heavy stones as far as the eye can see. Tell me, how would you feel if the rocks and huge stones in front of you at night slip and crawl to another place by the morning? Would you be scared? If you are brave, you may not feel scared, but you will definitely be surprised how this happened.
Like you, many scientists of the world have been trying to uncover this unsolved mystery of nature for years, but they have not been successful even today, which is why Death Valley moving stones remain one of the strangest natural mysteries on Earth.
The Terrifying Truth Behind Death Valley Moving Stones :
After many years of research, scientists could not solve this mystery, but in 2014, someone captured this incident in a time-lapse camera, in which these stones were seen moving slowly. After watching this video, some scientists told the world the terrifying truth of these wandering stones and said:

Heavy snowfall occurs at this place during the winter season. As a result of heavy snowfall, a thin sheet of ice freezes over this entire area. You will find this thin sheet of ice frozen even under the big rocks and heavy stones located in this area. Because of the morning sunlight, the thin sheet of ice located in this area breaks into large panels and starts melting.
Owing to the strong winds blowing in the area, the rocks and heavy stones lying on the ice panels start sliding slowly on the smooth soil surface and leave their strange marks behind on the ground. This natural combination of ice, wind, and sunlight explains how Death Valley moving stones travel across the playa.
Before Visiting Death Valley Moving Stones, Keep This in Mind
- Death Valley is a very large national park located in California. If you want to see wandering rocks, you should go to Racetrack Playa, which is also called a marsh land or dry lake bed.
- I request you to visit Death Valley only in winter or early spring, when the playa is completely wet and there is a thin sheet of ice under the rocks.
- The road to Racetrack Playa is very bad and rough, so go there only with a 4×4 vehicle. If you go there with a small car and it breaks down, you will not find anyone to help you in this barren desert. I request you to always keep a spare tire with you so that you can change it in case of a puncture; otherwise, you can get badly stuck in this desert. Before going to this place, carry a sufficient amount of water with you because you will not find water anywhere nearby, especially if you are going to see the famous Death Valley moving stones.
