How the Cover Art for This Scary, Spooky Book Was Created:
In 2012, a book based on a ghost story was published in Gujarat, India, written in Gujarati. The book was titled DARAMANI SAFAR, which means ‘Haunting Journey.’ The author of this book was Abhijitsinh Rajput — that’s me.
It was my first book, and it took me about a year to write. I finished the book, but I couldn’t decide on a suitable cover design. I asked many of my college friends for their advice on what the cover should look like.
One day, I received an unexpected email in my old email account. I opened it discovered a chilling image — the now infamous cursed book cover. I loved it at first sight, so I chose that image as the cover for my ghost story — the same one you see in the photos.
The Terrifying Experience Behind the Cursed Book Cover
After my book was published, its sales were excellent. I was thrilled because my first book was receiving such an overwhelmingly positive response. Days passed, and I turned my attention to writing my second book.
A few months later, around 1 AM, my phone rang. The number was unknown. A call at this hour startled me, but curiosity got the better of me, and I picked up. A soft, trembling voice spoke on the other end.
“Is this Abhijit Rajput?”
“Yes,” I replied cautiously, “but why are you calling at this hour? Who is this?”
There was a pause. Then she said, “Sir, I am reading your horror novel… but its cover page…” Her voice faltered.
“I know the cover page is good,” I said, “but why call me so late?”
The girl’s voice grew anxious. “The eye on the cover… it keeps opening and closing… in the dark. I was so scared that I threw the book outside.”
I couldn’t understand her. Then she whispered, “Is your horror book nearby? Please pick it up and place it on the table in front of you.”
Shivering, I went to the living room. I switched on the lights, opened my drawer, and placed the book on the glass table. She was still on the line.
I told her, “I don’t see anything strange on the cover page of the book.”
She whispered nervously, “Turn off the lights… make it completely dark where the book is.”
I obeyed. In the pitch-black room, only the cover page of the book was faintly visible. As I stared, I felt it—the half-face on the cover… its eyes… blinking. Whether it was real or just my imagination, I don’t know. But terror gripped me. I slammed the lights back on, my heart racing, sweat pouring down my face.
I glanced at my phone—the call had ended. I tried dialling her back repeatedly, but the line was dead. Since that night, I haven’t heard from her again. I still don’t know who she was… or what really happened.
Was it just my imagination, or was it a terrifying reality?
I thought it was just my imagination when I saw the girl’s eye on the book cover seemingly opening and closing in the dark of night.
A few days later, I started receiving numerous complaints from other readers who said the same thing — that the girl’s eye on the book cover seemed to open and close in the darkness.

One day, I was alone at home. At midnight, I took the book out of my drawer and placed it on the table in front of me. As soon as I turned off the lights and looked at the book, my hair stood on end.
I saw that the girl’s eye on the cover was indeed opening and closing. My suspicion turned into certainty, and I immediately turned the lights back on.
Even after all these years, I still feel terrified looking at that cursed book cover in the dark.
The calls from other people gradually stopped, because not everyone who owned the book experienced this terrifying phenomenon. Some people might have simply read the book and put it back in their drawer.
Most people who bought the book probably never even knew about this spooky occurrence.
When I told my friends about it, they also tried — looking at the cursed book cover in the dark — and they too experienced the same thing: the girl’s eye seemed to open and close.
I don’t know if it was just my imagination or a real phenomenon, but I urge you: Do not dare look at this cursed book cover in the dark.
